Drake Has Interview For UWEC Coaching Job

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 -- 10:53 AM

Oliver Drake, a 1996 graduate of Neillsville High School, was in Eau Claire on Tuesday to interview for the head men's basketball coaching job at U.W. Eau Claire.

Drake said that UW-Eau Claire is definitely a destination job. "When I started this coaching journey, this was the job." He said, "For a class for my Master's degree, we had to write long-term goals, and this was my long-term professional goal, to be the head coach at UW-Eau Claire basketball, and here I am getting the opportunity to put myself out there, and I know it could go one of two directions, but I'm ecstatic to be here in front of all of you, there's no question this is my dream job, and it's not the next job, it's UW-Eau Claire basketball, it doesn't get any bigger than this, in my mind."

Drake received a Bachelor of Science degree from U.W. Eau Claire in 2002 and a Master of Arts in Education from Viterbo University in 2008. His coaching experience includes the head boys basketball coach at Cadott High School from 2001- 2003, assistant men's basketball coach at U.W. Eau Claire from 2003-2004, assistant men's basketball coach at Wartburg College from 2004-2010, head men's golf coach at Wartburg College from 2004-2005 and head women's golf coach from 2005-2007. Since 2010, Oliver has been the head men's basketball coach at Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa where they were the MCC Tournament Champions in 2011.

As far as the job at U.W. Eau Claire, Drake said on Tuesday, ?Our goals are not going to be based on wins and losses, our goals are going to be how we handle our business, day in and day out, and if every day you focus on day in and day out tasks, wins will take care of itself, and that's what we're going to be about, process-oriented and not outcome oriented, rolling up our sleeves and just getting after it, every single day."

Today, (Wednesday) current UW-Superior head coach Matt Siverling will be on campus for his interview.
