The NCAA has sanctioned the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for financial aid violations. The NCAA says the case involves violations of longstanding financial aid rules for Division III schools, which are not allowed to award athletic scholarships.
An infractions committee found that from the 2007-08 through the 2011-12 academic years, UW-La Crosse improperly considered athletics leadership, participation or performance when awarding scholarships. And it says the university improperly allowed athletics department staffers to serve on scholarship selection committees.
But the committee also determined the violations were not intentional. The penalties include a public reprimand and censure, and two years of probation through April 10, 2014, but no ban on post-season play.
