Hundreds of Neillsville Fans Celebrate Championship

Monday, March 26th, 2012 -- 7:20 AM

A huge crowd showed up Sunday night at the Fieldhouse in Neillsville to celebrate the girls basketball team's Division 4 State Championship.

Following a few selections by the Neillsville Pep Band and director James Voss, the evening started with the introduction of the 2011-12 unbeaten State Champion Warriors and their coaches. The Cloverbelt Conference Championship trophy, Regional Championship and Sectional Championship plaques and the Division 4 State Championship trophy were all displayed at that time as well.

Head coach John Gaier told the crowd winning the championship was still a little surreal, and he gave credit to the players and the work they put in and also thanked all the parents for their sacrifices and the volunteers behind the scenes that have made the girls basketball program such a success.

The 6 seniors on the team all said a few words followed by comments from each of the other players on the team who all thanked their teammates for a great season and their coaches for doing a great job.

JV Coach Jamie Kuhn and C-Team coach Jenna Ehlen also spoke to the crowd. All three teams this year combined to go 69-0 on the season.

Neillsville Mayor Dewey Poeschel read a proclamation declaring that the week of March 25th - March 31st as Neillsville Girls Basketball Week in Neillsville.

The celebration ended with the crowd listening to a scoring highlights montage from the State Championship Game as heard on 92.7 FM WPKG with Larry Hoeser and Dave Matson.
