Neillsville and Owen-Withee in State Championships

The Neillsville Warrior girls basketball team has advanced to the Division 4 State Championship while Owen-Withee will play for the Division 5 crown on Saturday.

Division 4 Semi-Final:

Howards Grove................. 7 12 10 12 - 41

Jenny Lindner and Katelyn Crothers led the Warriors with 14 pts. apiece, Alleah Voight added 9 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocked shots and Caitlynne Naughton chipped in with 9 points. The Warriors (27-0) out-rebounded Howards Grove 32-20 and also had a 32-10 scoring advantage in the paint.

Next up for Neillsville is the Division 4 State Championship where they will face Oshkosh Lourdes (25-2) on Saturday afternoon at 12:45 pm. Lourdes upset Eau Claire Regis in the other semi-final Thursday night 70-63 in overtime.

Newman Catholic............... 10 11 14 11 - 46

Despite 35 turnovers, the Owen-Withee Blackhawk girls basketball team advanced to the Division 5 State Championship with a 49-46 win over the defending Division 5 champs and #1 ranked Wausau Newman Fighting Cardinals. The Blackhawks got a huge game from Aleyna Goerlitz who finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Alyssa Gordon added 11 points.

Owen-Withee (25-3) will now face Heritage Christian (23-4) in the Division 5 State Championship at 11:05 am on Saturday morning.
