Neillsville Girls Heading to State!

Saturday, March 17th, 2012 -- 10:46 PM

The Neillsville Warrior girls basketball is heading back to State for the first time since 2007 as they beat Cuba City Saturday night 57-37.

Neillsville (26-0) got off to a good start leading 12-9 after one quarter and built that lead to 5 at halftime 23-18. In the second half coach John Gaier said they made some adjustments on defense by getting out to Cuba City's shooters and on offense he said the Warriors wanted to create some gaps and used back cuts to open things up. A 14-3 third quarter advantage put Neillsville up 37-21 after 3 quarters and then they outscored Cuba City 20-16 in the 4th quarter to win the Sectional Final 57-37.

Jenny Lindner led the way for the Warriors with 15 points, Caitlynne Naughton added 13 and Katelyn Crothers came off the bench to score 11, all in the second half, and McKenzie Trunkel added 9 points for the Warriors.

Neillsville moves on the Division 4 State Semi-Final on Thursday night when they take on Howards Grove (25-1) at 8:15pm at the Kohl Center in Madison.
