Neillsville Advances to Sectional Final

Friday, March 16th, 2012 -- 6:31 AM

The Neillsville Warrior girls basketball remained unbeaten with a 46-45 overtime win in their Sectional Semi-Final Thursday night over Fennimore.

Neillsville (25-0) got off to a rough start before regrouping and taking a two point lead after one quarter 12-10. The two teams battled again in the second quarter with the Warriors holding a 24-20 halftime lead.

Neillsville outscored Fennimore 11-9 in the third quarter and took a 6 point lead into the final frame but the Golden Eagles kept up their pressure defense and had a chance to win in regulation but a jumper by Breland Prochaska at the buzzer bounced away.

In the overtime Fennimore had a 4 point lead late but a 3 pointer by senior MacKenzie Trunkel cut the lead to one and then two free throws by sophomore Jenny Lindner with 9.3 seconds left put Neillsville up by one and they hung on for the victory.

Lindner led the Warriors with 20 points, Trunkel added 7. Breland Prochaska led all scorers with 26.

Neillsville moves on to play Cuba City in the Sectional Final Saturday night in Mauston at 7pm. You can hear the game live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
