WEEK 6 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL WRAP

Monday, September 26th, 2011 -- 10:10 AM

With two-thirds of the regular season completed there is not an area conference with a decisive potential champion. One slip by any top team and it will be a dog fight to the end of the season. An outright conference championship is very important as it is a big factor in getting a number one playoff seed.

Looking at last weeks action, in the Cloverbelt, Neillsville was able to pick up its first win of the year by capitalizing on Altoona turnovers and passing miscues. The Warrior won their homecoming game 33 to 21. The battle for the top spot in the Cloverbelt was held in Eau Claire last week as Colby was in town to face Eau Claire Regis. Colby proved they are ready for a play-off run with a convincing 34 to 15 victory. Other Cloverbelt scores from last week had Spencer/Columbus over Cadott 14 to 8 and Stanley-Boyd over Osseo-Fairchild 35 to 14.

After 6 weeks of play in the Cloverbelt:
Colby is alone on top at 5 and 0
Regis falls a half game back at 5 and 1
Followed by Stanley-Boyd at 4 and 2
Osseo-Fairchild at 3 and 2
Spencer/Columbus and Cadott at 2 and 3
Altoona and Fall Creek at 1 and 4
and Neillsville at 1 and 5.

The Marawood Conference saw the top teams continuing to distance themselves from the rest of the conference as Edgar continued it winning streak with a 63 to 0 blanking of Phillips. Stratford continued to roll as well with a 40 to 12 victory over Tomahawk. Pittsville defeated Rib/Lake Prentice 27 to 12 and Auburndale slipped by Chequamegon 36 to 34.

After 6 weeks in the Marawood Conference:
Edgar and Stratford are tied at the top of the conference at 5 and 0
Marathon is a game back at 4 and 1
Followed by Rib Lake/Prentice at 3 and 2
Pittsville at 3 and 3
Auburndale at 2 and 4
Phillips and Chequamegon at 1 and 4
and Tomahawk at 0 and 6.

The Cloverbelt/Marawood Crossover game saw Marathon falling for the second week in a row as the Fall Creek Crickets defeated the Red Raiders 22 to 13.

In the Cloverwood last week saw Athens having another good outing this time at the expense of Chippewa Falls McDonnell. The Blue Jays won easily 36 to 0. Other games on the Cloverwood say the second place teams winning as well. Greenwood/Granton defeated Gilman 38 to 28 and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption defeated Loyal 23 to 8. Owen-Withee picked up the victory over Abbotsford 43 to 6 and Wausau Newman downed Thorp 35 to 15.

The Cloverwood standings after 6 weeks of play:
