Tuesday, January 26th, 2021 -- 8:51 AM
Tom Brady has won more Super Bowl MVPs than any other player, but he's not the favorite for the award in Super Bowl LV. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the odds-on favorite to be named MVP of this year's Super Bowl. The quarterback of the winning team has won MVP 29 times, including in eight of the past 11 Super Bowls. Brady will be gunning for his seventh Super Bowl title and first with Tampa Bay, while Mahomes and Kansas City are looking to repeat as NFL champs. For the first time in Super Bowl history, the game will feature the winning quarterbacks from the last two NFL champions going head to head.
For the first time in history, one of the teams playing in the Super Bowl will be on its home field. The game will be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, the home of the Buccaneers, who have reached their first Super Bowl since winning it in 2002. This will be the fifth Super Bowl held in Tampa and the first since 2009.
The NFL has announced there will be 22,000 fans will be in attendance, and approximately 7,500 of them will be vaccinated health care workers invited as guests of honor for their service during the pandemic. They will be selected by all 32 NFL teams and given free tickets from the game.
The National Anthem will be performed by country music star Eric Church and R&B star Jazmine Sullivan. Singer-songwriter H.E.R. will perform "America the Beautiful."
Canadian pop star the Weeknd will headline this year's halftime off the success of his hit 2020 album "After Hours," led by the No. 1 single "Blinding Lights."
The game on Sunday, Feb. 7, will air on CBS and also can be streamed on CBS All Access, CBSSports.com, and the CBS Sports app. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
The Chiefs are consensus 3-point favorites over the Buccaneers.
