VARSHO DOING WELL AT PURDUE
Friday, April 8th, 2011 -- 10:21 AM
Andie Varsho, the daughter of Gary and Kay Varsho of Marshfield, is one of 5 freshmen starters on this years Purdue Boilermaker softball team. Through 31 games, she leads the team with a .474 batting average and 11 doubles, which both are second in the Big Ten. She also has four triples, one home run and 22 stolen bases. Varsho has also been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times and Player of the Week once. In high school as a member of the Marshfield Tigers, she was a four-time all-state selection and the Wisconsin Valley Conference player of the year as a junior. Varsho says she wants to contribute to the team and just wants the team to win. The "team-first" message is one Varsho said Purdue coach Kim Maher instilled from the start of practice last fall. That attitude, and a few words from her dad, Gary, a former Major Leaguer with the Cubs, Pirates, Reds and Phillies, also have contributed to her solid season.Feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments.
