BOOSTER CLUB TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual ?Youth Boys Basketball Tournament? on Sunday, February 6th with 18 area teams participating. Twenty-seven games were contested throughout the day with the following champions noted. In the 5th grade division, first place was captured by Greenwood as they dumped Stevens Point in the final game. Placing third was Neillsville who was coached by Nate Ehlen & Jerry Pfeiffer and whose team members included: Joey Anason, Mason Coblentz, Tyler Pfeiffer, Logan Matson, Noah Henchen, Kavan Naughton, Luke Mayer, Trevor Zurakowski, Ethan Kranz & Nolan Watton, In the 6th grade competition Cadott reigned as champion as they defeated Granton in the final by a 36-10. Members of the runner-up squad that was coached by Bob VandeBerg were Brock Opelt, Matthew Tyler, Austin VandeBerg, Michael Vine, Dennis H and Sam & Dominique Cappadora. Placing third was the team representing St. Point who edged Neillsville 28-22. Members of the local team whose coaches are Doug Zank and Steve Miller were; Myles McDonald, Paul Miller, David Harder, Nick Kuhn, Logan Brody, Devin Esterlen and Adam Schmidt. The winner of the Consolation championship was Pittsville with Spencer & Greenwood rounding out the tourney roster. In the 8th grade competition the Neillsville Red squad took home the gold medals as they whipped Marathon 39-28 in the championship tilt. Team members of the squad which is coached by Bill Neville, Matt Peterson and Dave Matson include; Sam Neville, Nolan & Neal Matson, Devin Opelt, Nathan Peterson, Josh Opelt & Nate McDonald. Cadott took home the bronze medals with Pittsville finishing in fourth place. In the Consolation bracket Marshfield took down the Neillsville White (7th grade) squad whose roster included; Mike Dux, Josh Tomlin, Tristen Heidman, Elijah Eisfeldt, Terrell Zuakowski, Nicolas May, Jahean Mcgee, Jake Kunze, Payton Bymers and Jason Kurth. The team is coached by Cain Trunkel, Bill Tomlin and Mark Dux. Other place winners in the bracket were Greenwood and Spencer. The tournament, sponsored by the Booster Club was conducted with a tremendous amount of volunteer help and all proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville Schools.
