ERICKSON 3-POINTER LIFTS NEILLSVILLE IN OVERTIME

Friday, February 12th, 2010 -- 6:51 AM

A 3-pointer by Mitchell Erickson with less than 10 seconds proved to be the game winner in overtime as Neillsville came from behind to beat Colby 69-67 in overtime. Neillsville (14-4, 11-3) got off to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter but then were outscored the rest of the first half 32-9 by the Hornets (12-5, 9-4) who took a 17 point lead into the locker room. Things didn't any better for the Warriors in the 3rd quarter as they fell behind by as many as 21 before outscoring Colby in the 4th quarter 26-11 to tie the game at 59 at the end of regulation, thanks in part to some big 3's by Sterling Backaus. Neillsville then outscored Colby 10-8 in overtime for the win. Tyler Hoernke of Colby led all scorers with 25 including 17 in the first half. Cain Trunkel led Neillsville 23 points, Sterling Backaus had four 3-pointers for 12 points, Tyler Ehlen had 11 and Mitchell Erickson added 10. Neillsville will be at Blair-Taylor on Tuesday night.
