Todd Clark To Retire From WIAA Executive Staff

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Todd Clark, director of communications with the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association, will retire from his role on the executive staff Friday, Jan. 15, 2027.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside my colleagues on the WIAA staff and everyone I’ve worked with in serving the membership, media and corporate partners,” Clark said. “There are so many life-enriching experiences I’ve enjoyed both as a student-athlete and during my career that truly embrace the importance and significance of education-based sports.”

During his more than 26 years in the position, Clark’s responsibilities have included overseeing all aspects of sports information for the association:  internal and external communications, media relations, corporate marketing and sponsorships, advertising, tournament records and sportsmanship. He also assisted with website maintenance as well as Tournament Series electronic qualification and seeding. Additionally, he has managed the WIAA Award of Excellence and Spirit of Sport programs, coordinated the production of all print publications, and contributed editorial content for the WIAA Bulletin.

“Todd has been a reassuringly familiar face and a deeply trusted partner to our WIAA staff, member schools, media partners and many more for several decades, and he will be deeply missed upon his retirement in January,” WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser said. “His unique ability to connect with people and build lasting relationships across the state has left an indelible mark in the association’s rich history. We are incredibly grateful to have him remain with us through the upcoming fall season, ensuring a smooth transition and allowing us to celebrate his remarkable legacy a bit longer.”

At the national level, Clark served on the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Records Committee from 2007 to 2010 and on the NFHS Annual Summer Meeting Advisory Committee from 2009 to 2010. In 2012, he received an NFHS citation for his outstanding contributions to high school sports. Clark also served on the NFHS Network Leadership Circle, completed a term on the Heart of the Arts Selection Committee and was a member of the NFHS Spirit of Sport Committee from 2018 to 2020. He has presented on a variety of topics at the NFHS Summer Meetings and at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Doug Chickering – WIAA Sports Workshops.

He received the Association Friend Award presented by the Wisconsin Association of School Councils in 2007 and was the emcee of the 2022 NFHS Hall of Fame ceremony in San Antonio, Texas, and the WIAA Scholar-Athlete Ceremonies in 2025 and 2026.

Clark joined the executive staff after serving nine years as the sports information director at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse from 1991-2000. Prior to the UW-La Crosse position, Clark was a sports information director assistant at Southern Illinois-Carbondale from 1990-1991.

Other related experience included serving as a venue media chief at the 1990 U.S. Olympic Festival, and as the official scorer for the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships from 2000-2001.

Clark earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and communication arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. He received a master of special studies degree in sports administration from St. Cloud State University in 1993.
