Opelt Named New Head Wrestling Coach For Regis-Altoona

Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 -- 8:24 AM

Neillsville native, Phillip Opelt has been named the new Head Coach of the Regis-Altoona Boys Wrestling Program.  Opelt had a career record at Neillsville High School of 180 wins and 20 losses in 4 years.  Following graduation, he continued his wrestling career at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. There, he became a two-time national qualifier, a 2016 All-American, and a two-time Scholar All-American. He also served as a team captain for three years.

While at Cornell College, Opelt majored in Kinesiology in preparation for chiropractic school at Life University in Marietta, Georgia.   After earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2021, Opelt returned to Wisconsin, where he began coaching at Crass Trained while also launching his own chiropractic practice. As a coach, he has helped develop multiple NAIA national champions and All-Americans, as well as numerous high school state place winners and champions.  During the 2025–26 season, Opelt served as a volunteer assistant with Regis-Altoona Wrestling, where he helped guide the program to its first state champion in school history, Drey Kren, and its first-ever team sectional qualification.

Now serving as the head coach for RAW, Opelt aims to build on the program’s strong foundation and lead it to new levels of success. Outside of wrestling, he enjoys hunting, spending time with his wife and family, and helping others become healthier versions of themselves through his chiropractic work.
