Buchanan Wins 97kg Title At The 2026 US Open

The 2026 US Open in Las Vegas this past weekend featured many of the country's top wrestlers. 

In the Men's Freestyle Finals, Loyal native, Stephen Buchanan used a pair of early takedowns – including one that just beat the first-period buzzer – to earn himself a 5-3 decision over 2022 World Teamer Hayden Zillmer at 97kg. 

Buchanan now moves on to 2026 Final X on June 19th in Newark, New Jersey.  The event features the top two U.S. athletes at each weight in a best-of-three championship series, with the winners earning spots on the 2026 Senior World Team.
