Area Individuals Crowned Champions At WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament/Saturday Results

The 2026 State Individual Wrestling Tournament concluded Saturday at the Kohl Center with champions crowned in three boys' divisions and one girls' division and it also produced the second girls’ team champion in the tournament’s history.

Milton captured the girls’ team title for the second year in a row, compiling 81.5 points, and Wautoma/Wild Rose finished runner-up with 60 points.

Fifty-four individuals earned championships, including 42 boys in three divisions and 12 in the girls’ division. The most celebrated champions were the illustrious four-time champions. Seniors Kellen Wolbert of Oconomowoc (53-0) and Haakon Peterson (50-0) of Dodgeville joined 32 other boys to have accomplished the feat. Senior Taylor Whiting of Lena (16-0) became the first girl in tournament history to win four championships in a high school career.

 

From our area in Division 1, Haiden Carlson of Marshfield lost in his 3rd place match to finish 4th, Aspen Tritz of Wisconsin Rapids at 144 lost the 5th place match while Jackson Freeman of Wisconsin Rapids won his 5th place match

 

In Division 2 boys from our area, Drey Kren of Regis/Altoona is State Champion at 106, Coltyn Weiss of Regis/Altoona finished 3rd at 120.  NGL’s Adam Kautzer lost in his 5th place match at 132.  At 126, Tristin Smazal of Abby/Colby won his 5th place match and at 144, Matthew Jakel of Abby/Colby lost in the consolation semi-final.

 

In Division 3 from our area, senior Blake Underwood of Marathon (56-0) stayed unbeaten for the season with a pin in the 120 championship match. He was also champion at 113 last year.  At 106, Dakota Kraft of Edgar lost his 3rd place match, Ryker Moskiewicz of Cadott lost his consolation semi-final match.  At 113, Taylor Underwood of Marathon lost his championship match and finished 2nd.  At 126, Carson Weiler of Auburndale finished 5th.  At 132, Zade Grassel of Auburndale finished 3rd while Lucas Forrest of Stratford lost in his consolation semi-final.  At 138 Cale Quaintance of Marathon lost in his 5th place match.  At 144, Aaron Knetter of Stratford lost his 3rd place match, Oliver Sundbrink of Cadott lost in the 5th place match.  At 157, Gavin Tritz of Assumption/Pacelli lost in the championship match.  At 215, Mitchell Reineke of Cadott lost his consolation semi-final match.  At 285, Owen Lueck of Stratford lost in the 5th place match and Alex Becker of Auburndale lost his consolation semi-final.

 

For the girls in our area - Erika Sleznikow of Marshfield is the State Champion at 138 and Riley Hanrahan of Black River Falls is a State Champion at 145.  Cassidy O’Connell of Regis/Altoona at 100 lost her 3rd place match.  Izzy Sonnentag of Cadott at 114 lost her 3rd place match.  At 120, Tessa York of Cadott lost in the consolation semi-final. At 138 Azariah Hoffman of Spencer/Columbus/Granton lost her consolation semi-final.  At 235, Lexi Stoflet of Assumption/Pacelli won her 3rd place match.
