SentryWorld Announced as Host for Two USGA Championships

Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 -- 11:07 AM

The United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced SentryWorld, in Stevens Point, Wis., as the host site for the 2028 U.S. Senior Women’s Open and 2034 U.S. Senior Open Championships. These two future championships will be the fourth and fifth USGA championships held at SentryWorld.

SentryWorld, a public, parkland course in central Wisconsin, was developed by Sentry Insurance in 1982 as part of a sports complex that includes indoor tennis courts, banquet space and restaurants. At the heart of the 200-acre property lies the championship layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. In 2013, Jones oversaw a major renovation that was led by architects Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi.

SentryWorld hosted its first USGA championship in 1986 when Cindy Schreyer defeated 13-year-old Vicki Goetze, 3 and 2, in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links final match. The USGA returned to SentryWorld in 2019 with the playing of the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. Lei (Angelina) Ye made a 3-foot par putt on the 36th hole to defeat Jillian Bourdage, 1 up, in a thrilling final.

It will be the second time the course hosts the premier senior men’s championship. Bernhard Langer became the oldest champion at 65 years old when he won the 2023 U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld.

Wisconsin has hosted 18 USGA championships, most recently the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally at Erin Hills. The 2026 U.S. Mid-Amateur will be held at Sand Valley Resort in Nekoosa, and the 2027 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship will be hosted at Erin Hills in 2027.

The U.S. Senior Open Championship is for golfers 50 and older and open to any professional or amateur with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4. Major champions Padraig Harrington (2022 and 2025), Bernhard Langer (2023) and Jim Furyk (2021) have won four of the previous five championships.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open is open to professional golfers, and amateurs with a Handicap Index® not exceeding 7.4, who are at least 50 years of age by the start of championship play. The field of 120 players competes in two rounds of stroke play, after which the field is reduced to the low 50 scorers and ties for the final 36 holes. The 2026 championship will be played at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor, Mich., Aug. 20-23.

SentryWorld will also host the USNDP Midwest Sentry Showcase from July 3-4, 2026. A first-of-its-kind event, the two-day team event features State Junior Teams from the U.S. National Development Program representing Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin, bringing the teams together for two days of friendly competition and camaraderie. In 2024, SentryWorld hosted a first-of-its-kind international friendly match for the U.S. National Junior Team against its Australian counterparts.

The State Junior Team program was created to expand, strengthen and diversify the junior golf pipeline by creating critical development, competitive and talent identification opportunities within each state for elite athletes ages 13-18.
