MADISON, Wis – Team champions and individual medalists in two divisions were crowned at the State Girls Golf Championships held Monday and Tuesday at University Ridge in Madison, Wis.
Divine Savior Holy Angels won the Division 1 State Golf Team Championship for the third straight season with a four-player, 36-hole total of 621. Brookfield East placed second, 20 shots behind the champion with a score of 641 after finishing fifth a year ago.
Senior Paige Haugen of Brookfield East won medalist honors in Division 1 by shooting a blistering 12-under par 132 on 36 holes, which set a State Tournament record for the lowest score by an individual. The previous record of 138 was shot by Casey Danielson of Osceola in 2010, and Haugen and junior McKenna Nelson of Beaver Dam last year. Haugen had finished runner-up the past two seasons to go with a seventh-place standing in 2022. Junior Emma Cunningham of the Green Bay Preble/East/Southwest/West Co-op placed second with a 2-under-par 142.
After finishing runner-up last year, Spooner won the program’s first State championship by earning the Division 2 team title with a score of 694 on 36 holes. Edgerton was the runner-up, two shots back of Spooner with a four-player score of 696.
Senior Belle Kongshaug of Colfax/Elk Mound successfully defended the Division 2 individual title she won the past two years. She shot a 4-over-par 148 to become just the fifth girls’ golfer to win at least three State titles in a career. In addition to her three titles, she finished runner-up in 2022. There was a three-way tie for second place. Sophomore Aubrey Molaison of Lake Country Lutheran, junior Avery Voeltz of Spooner and senior Maddi Fletcher of Westby/Viroqua each shot scores of 153.
