Wausau's Northwoods League Softball Team Debuts New Name
Thursday, April 10th, 2025 -- 10:53 AM

Wausau's Northwoods League softball team will be known as Wausau Ignite Softball. The importance of the name “Ignite” for the softball club is immense. One of the main goals of Wausau Ignite Softball, as well as Northwoods League Softball, is to “ignite” a passion for women’s sports across the country. One of the key elements of the logo is the Northern Lights that illuminate the night sky, symbolizing how the team seeks to shine a light on collegiate softball and women’s sports as a whole.
The Northwoods League, which is one of baseball's premier summer collegiate leagues, began a softball league last season, with teams in LaCrosse, Madison, Mankato and Minot. This year, the Wisconsin Woodchucks will sponsor Wausau Ignite, making Northwoods League softball a five-team league. Jasmin Estrada is the team’s Head Coach for the inaugural 2025 season.
Play begins on June 10, and will conclude with a championship series to begin on August 4.
The Ignite will play at Wausau's Athletic Park, which was fitted for softball with FieldTurf following the 2024 baseball season. With that new surface in place, Athletic Park will also be available for high school softball, and Mosinee will play Pacelli in the first softball game at Athletic Park on April 24.
