Buchanan Wins Opening Matches At NCAA National Championships

The best college wrestlers in the world will compete this weekend at the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling National Championships today through Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The top eight participants in each weight class will be awarded All-America honors.
Stephen Buchanan of Loyal is wrestling for the University of Iowa Stephen has the number-two seed at 197, and in first round action on Thursday, Stephen defeated Remy Cotton of Michigan State 22-9. Stephen also beat Joseph Novak of Wyoming last night in a tech fall. Stephen will face Seth Shumate of Ohio St. in a quarterfinal today.
At 149lbs, Gavin Drexler of Stratford, wrestling for North Dakota St. lost to Sammy Alvarez of Rider on Thursday in his preliminary match and then beat Kaden Cassidy (George Mason) 13-1 last night. He will now continue this morning with a match against (5) Kyle Parco (IOWA).
At 285, Sam Mitchell of Marshfield, wrestling for Wyoming lost to Greg Kerk-vleet of Penn St. in the preliminary round. He then lost to Cory Day of Binghamton last night.
