Buchanan Stays Unbeaten With Win On Friday

A competitive border battle between Iowa wrestling and Minnesota on Friday night went the Hawkeyes' way for the 11th time in a row, as Iowa secured a 23-11 victory on the road.
At 197 pounds, No. 1 ranked Stephen Buchanan of Loyal and No. 8 Salazar were tied at zero each after a slow first period, but Buchanan escaped from bottom in four seconds to break the tie in the second at 1-0. Salazar got to a single-leg in the second frame, but Buchanan was able to wiggle his way away and kept his advantage going into the third. On top to start the final period, Buchanan was able to ride Salazar for over a minute before Salazar finally escaped to tie it at 1-1.
Needing to score a takedown since Buchanan had the riding-time point, Salazar going into a scramble that Buchanan won to lock up a victory.
Iowa will host Northwestern on Sunday in Iowa City, in their final Big Ten Match of the season.
