Owen-Withee Prevails In A Record-Setting 8-Player Football State Championship

The Owen-Withee Blackhawks completed an unbeaten 12-0 season with a 50-36 win over Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas in the 8-Player Football State Championship on Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids. The 50 points are the 2nd most scored in the 8-Player Championship game while the 86 combined points are a new 8-Player Championship game record.
Mason Gay was the star of the game rushing for 321 yards on 29 carries and 6 touchdowns. The 321 yards rushing are the 2nd most in championship game history and the 6 touchdowns are a new 8-Player Championship game record. The Blackhawks attempted just one pass in the game and it was a 44 yard scoring strike from Dominic Sherwood to Tim Stock.
The Owen-Withee defense was led by Colin Fritz with 17 tackles, including 10 solos and a sack, and Sherwood contributed with 12 tackles.
Calvin Peters rushed 30 times for 178 yards and a score to lead the Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas offense.
The championship game was filled with offense as the Hawks outgained the Titans 417 to 412 yards. The 829 yards combined are 3rd most in history.
It's the first 8-Player State Championship for Owen-Withee and their 4th overall
