Columbus Catholic To Play In The D5 State Championship/Other State Basketball Results

The Columbus Catholic boys basketball team will play for a Gold Ball on Saturday after beating Solon Springs 78-65 in a Division 5 State Semi-Final Friday morning at the Kohl Center in Madison.  The Dons trailed by 4, 36-32 going into halftime.  The second half was a see-saw affair until late in the half when the Dons started to pull away and used cluth free throw shooting down the stretch to seal the win.  Cy Becker led the Dons in scoring with a game high 24 points which included a tournament tying five 3-pointers.  In fact, Columbus Catholic set a new Division 5 State record with 13 made 3-pointers in the game.  Charlie Moore finished with 15 points while Emmitt Konieczny added 14 for Columbus Catholic who improves to 28-2 and will now play in the Division 5 State Championship on Saturday morning vs. Abundant Christian Life, who beat Almond-Bancroft 42-37.  Columbus Catholic will be looking for their first WIAA State Boys Basketball Championship.  As a former member of WISAA, the Dons were a four-time champion in Division 3.  Game time on Saturday morning is 11:05 am.  You can hear the action live on 92.3 FM WOSQ with coverage starting at 10:30.

#4 Kenosha St. Joseph 46,  #1 Marathon 37 - Tyler Underwood 9 pts, Grant Warren 8 pts and 14 reb.  The Red Raiders went just 3 for 16 from beyond the arc.  Marathon finishes their season 27-2

#2 Mineral Point 62,  #3 Aquinas 61
