Eagles Win 4 Overtime Thriller In Home Holiday Tournament/Other Area Scores

The Auburndale Eagles got a buzzer beating 3-pointer from Evan Scholl to beat the Neillsville Warriors 80-78 in four overtimes in the championship game of the Auburndale Holiday Tournament on Friday night.  

Cameron Kennedy had hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 6 seconds to go in the fourth overtime to give Neillsville a 78-77 lead. Auburndale then called a timeout with 3.9 seconds left and Scholl hit the game winner.

Neillsville’s Sam Hayes hit a basket off an offensive rebound with four seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime tied at 56-56.  Caden Weinfurter scored with 38 seconds left to knot the score at 59-59 after one overtime.  Neillsville’s Bryce Erickson forced the third OT with a runner in the lane with six seconds to go.

Neillsville finished with 17 made 3-pointers, led by Kennedy and Ashton Schultz who each made 4.  Kennedy finished with a team high 21 points, Schultz had 14, Andrew Hoeser 11 and Erickson finished with 10.  

Auburndale was led by Caden Weinfurter who had a game high 24 points.   Scholl and Blake Raab each had 14 points, Thomas Aue 13 and Kaden Anderson added 10.

Auburndale was 23 for 36 at the free throw line while Neillsville was just 3 for 7.  

Neillsville falls to 5-6 on the season while Auburndale improves to 9-1.
