Four State Champions Crowned in Baseball

The 75th Annual State Baseball Tournament produced champions in four divisions at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium Thursday.
Fifth-seeded Whitefish Bay (25-7) defeated second-seeded Hortonville (26-5) 5-1 in the Division 1 championship game. The Blue Dukes scored all five of their runs in the first two innings. Brewers manager Craig Counsell’s son, Jack, was 1 for 4 with a run scored for Whitefish Bay. Whitefish Bay wins its first title in its first appearance in the spring season tournament.
Top-seeded Denmark (30-2) became just the third program in the history of the spring baseball season to win three straight championship by capturing the Division 2 title with a 3-2 win over second-seeded St. Thomas More (27-3) in 11 innings. St. Thomas More finishes runner-up in its first-ever experience at State.
In Division 3, second-seeded St. Croix Falls (27-3) improved on last season’s runner-up finish to win the championship with a 3-1 win over top-seeded Aquinas (24-3) in the final. St. Croix Falls wins the program’s first championship.
Second-seeded Ithaca (21-7) fought back from a 7-0 deficit with eight runs in the final three innings to defeat top-seeded Pecatonica (24-2) and win the Division 4 championship game 8-7. Ithaca wins the program’s second State championship in its fifth appearance in the tournament.
