Champions in Three Divisions Crowned at State Boys Golf Tournament

Three teams and three individuals were crowned champions at the 2023 State Boys Golf Championships at Blackwolf Run on Tuesday.

Sheboygan North led the tournament from the start and won the Division 1 team championship. Last year’s champion Eau Claire Memorial came within three strokes of the lead on Day 2, but finished runner-up by 8 strokes. Senior Parker Etzel of Eau Claire Memorial won the individual medalist honor in Division 1. He shot 3-over-par with a 36-hole total of 147 for the tourney.

Edgewood won its sixth straight Division 2 team championship, not including the canceled 2020 season due to COVID-19. No other program has won more than four consecutive titles. Winneconne finished 2nd. McDonell/Regis finished 5th. Senior Winston Knobloch of Winneconne was the Division 2 medalist for the second year in a row, shooting a 3-over-par 147.

Cambridge won the Division 3 team championship after finishing runner-up a year ago. Mineral Point finished runner-up this year, 29 strokes back. Newman Catholic finished 4th, Neillsville finished 7th. Sophomore Kian Bystol-Flores led throughout much of the tournament and won the Division 3 gold medal with a 6-over-par score of 153. Tucker Johnson of Neillsville finished 12th.
