Neillsville Girls Softball Clinches Share Of ECC Title/Other Area Scores
Friday, May 12th, 2023 -- 8:55 AM
A controversial ending led to the Neillsville girls softball team to a 3-2 win over Columbus Catholic on Thursday and at least a share of the Eastern Cloverbelt title.
Here's how the play to end the game went; Columbus Catholic's Sam Casperson hit a groundball to third base that was bobbled and Rhya Dieringer scored. Katelyn Casperson, who started the play at second base, tried to also score and was initially called safe after a throw home by Neillsville first baseman Lainey Horn. However, after an appeal to the base umpire, she was ruled out, ending the game.
Neillsville finishes the conference season 11-1 while Columbus Catholic, at 9-1, has games with Spencer on Tuesday and Gilman next Thursday still left on their conference schedule.
