Neillsville/Granton Downs Loyal For First Win Of Season

The Neillsville/Granton football team used a stout defensive effort enroute to their first win of the season as they dominated Loyal on Thursday night 21-8.
After both teams had a punt blocked on successive possessions, Neillsville/Granton got on the scoreboard first on a 16 yard pass from Bryce Erickson to Braylon Boyer late in the first quarter.
The Warriors would block a Loyal punt inside the Greyhounds 5 yard line in the 2nd quarter and would score on 7 yard pass from Erickson to Garrett Learman to make it 14-0 at the half.
The Warriors would score again with 4:35 left in the third quarter on a 1 yard run by Micah Zoschke to make it 21-0
Loyal would get on the scoreboard with 2 minutes left in the game on a Eli Zettler to Drew Stieglitz 3 yard pass. The two-point conversion was successful to make the final 21-8
Drew Brown led the Warriors on the ground with 14 carries for 80 yards. Tryn Scheel led Loyal with 51 yards on 13 carries. Erickson finished 6 of 15 for 80 yards threw the air with 2 touchdowns and Zettler finished 5 of 14 for 50 yards and a score.
Neillsville/Granton (1-1) will start the Cloverbelt Conference schedule next Thursday at Elk Mound while Loyal (0-2) will host Auburndale next Friday.
