Neillsville Girls Win Cloverbelt Basketball Championship

The Neillsville girls basketball beat Osseo-Fairchild on Saturday night 56-40 to win the 1st Place Crossover Playoff and the Cloverbelt Conference Championship.  

The Warriors got out to an early lead and went into the locker room at halftime leading 37-25, thanks to the hot hand of Paris Opelt, who had 24 first half points.  The second half didn't feature as much scoring, but Neillsville maintained their lead, outscoring the Thunder 19-15, to win by 16.

Opelt finished with a career high 31 points,  Emma Moseley added 10.  Taylor Gunderson had 13 to lead Osseo-Fairchild.

The Warriors improved to 22-2 on the season while Osseo-Fairchild fell to 22-2.  Both teams will get byes in the opening round of the WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament which starts on Tuesday.  Both teams are on the same side of the Osseo-Fairchild Sectional bracket.  Osseo-Fairchild is a No.1 seed and Neillsville a No. 2 seed.  They could meet again in the Sectional Semi-Final.  

In the 2nd Place Crossover Playoff game on Saturday,  McDonell Central beat Spencer 60-29.
