Neillsville Booster Club Girls Basketball Tournament Results

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual Girl’s Youth Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 8th.

Twenty-eight, 5th-8th grade teams from around Central Wisconsin competed in the tournament.

Placing first in the 5th grade division was the Auburndale Apaches as they edged the hometown Neillsville Warriors in the championship game. Members of the local squad who were coached by Jen & Kevin Dittner and Rachelle Buettner included: Braelyn Anding, Madilyn Davel, Ella Dittner, Arleth Richart, Layla Walk, Tessa Warren, Kysha Rakovec, McKenna Erickson, Maddie Shaw & Jayda Bottelmy. Placing third was Fall Creek, with Augusta garnering 4th. The consolation championship was won by Osseo-Fairchild with Colby, Spencer and the Neillsville fourth grade team rounding out the field. Members of the young Neillsville squad who were coached by Tim Voigt and Eric Backaus included; Navaeh Stenulson, Addie Kranz, Riley Hemp, Brailey Opelt, Marie Hagmann, Trevor Hart, and Abigail Backaus .

In the 6th grade brackets, the championship was won by Fall Creek with Neillsville finishing second. Members of the Warrior squad coached by Jamie Kuhn and Teresa Stargardt included: Olivia Langreck, Rachel Dux, Laci Stargardt, McKendy Barth, Mercedes Bayles, Emerson Ormond, Karcyn Schmitz, Jessa Kuhn & Dani Bobeck. Grabbing the bronze medals were Auburndale, with Stratford fourth. The consolation champs were the team representing Marshfield. Blair-Taylor, Nasonville, Granton, Gilman and Spencer rounded out the field.

In the 7th grade division, Osseo-Fairchild reigned supreme as they defeated Chippewa Falls in the title game. Placing third was Fall Creek with Nasonville grabbing fourth place. The local squad experienced a rough day as they were defeated in their final game by a tight 31-28 score by Spencer, securing 6th place. The team coached by Jenna Ehlen included: Gracie Schoengarth, Kaylee Lawrence, Sydney Subke, Ashley Hensiak, Shylah Walk, Kenadi Urban, Karli Gross, Kelti Schoen, Sophie Hanson, Olivia Hahn & Tyla Uptergrove.

In the final 8th grade bracket, the local squad captured the championship with a perfect 3-0 record. Members of the team, who were coached by Jon Harris and Sunni Opelt included: Jada Gurney, Sella Anderson, Nataly Harris, Paris & Lilly Opelt, Paige Voigt, Olivia Kopreck, Abby Koepp, and Amelia Warren. The silver medals were won by Osseo-Fairchld, with Greenwood and Spencer rounding out the bracket.

In the daylong competition, forty-four games were contested. The Booster Club would like to thank the many volunteers who helped officiate, score keep, take tickets or work the concession stand. All proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville schools.
