Greenwood Football Team Receives WFCA Grant

Thursday, September 12th, 2019 -- 8:09 AM

The Greenwood Football program was awarded a $3000 grant for assistance with its program needs through the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA) offers grants to Wisconsin high school football programs. The purpose of the grant is to supplement high school football budgets with an emphasis on the health and well-being of the students participating in state high school programs. The WFCA Grant is designed to enhance programs beyond what a typical budget will cover.

Elements such as player safety, injury prevention, and concussion protocol are examples of items the WFCA would entertain and apply weight to in determining recipients of a WFCA Grant. Any Wisconsin high school football program can apply for the WFCA Grant. Significance was applied to schools with a yearly budget or three-year average budget under $3,000. Head Coach Chris Schmitz applied for the grant and was eligible for the grant as he is a member of the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.

With funds from the WFCA Grant, the Greenwood Football Program was able to update equipment for the protection of their football players including Guardian caps for the entire team, hand pads, tackle dummies, 2 Sling Tackle balls, and padded girdles.

All monies from this grant was used for equipment to reduce player contact, reduce the risk of concussion and overall player protection.
