U.S. National Kubb Championships Wrap Up In Eau Claire

Monday, July 15th, 2019 -- 12:48 PM

The U.S. National Kubb Championship came to an end on Sunday with 16 teams playing for the gold.

Kubb is a lawn game where the objective is to knock over wooden blocks, known as kubbs, by throwing wooden batons (kastpinnar) at them. Kubb can be described as a combination of bowling and horseshoes. Play takes place on a small rectangular playing field known as a pitch. Kubbs are placed on both ends and the "king", a larger wooden block is placed in the middle of the pitch. The ultimate objective is to knock over the "kubbs" on the opposing side of the pitch and then knock over the "king" before the opponent does.

According to event coordinator, Eric Anderson, over 600 spectators attended on Saturday, and about 300 showed up to watch the finals on Sunday.

The Championship hosted teams from all over the United States and even a team from the game's homeland, Sweden.

Four teams went home victorious from the Kubb capital of Wisconsin on Sunday. First place went to 246 Mafia, a team with members from Iowa and Eau Claire. Minnesota based team, SKOL, took second place, Chaska blue took third, and Eau Claire team, Kubbitz, finished in 4th place.
