Five students from Neillsville competed on March 2nd at the Wisconsin Optimist Club, “Tri-Star” Basketball state competition in Oshkosh at the Menominee Nation Arena, the Home of the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks G League affiliate.

These individuals earned the chance to compete in the prestigious event by finishing in first place in the local contest held in February at the fieldhouse. Over 100 individuals from around Wisconsin competed in shooting, dribbling and passing events. The local contingent represented the Neillsville Optimist Club very successfully. The participants were also guests of the Milwaukee Herd as they faced the Westchester Knicks later in the evening.

Emerson Ormond, daughter of Jake & Tara, a future standout at Neillsville High School for the lady Warriors placed 1st in the 10 year old competition and was awarded a trophy for her efforts. Also taking home hardware was Tucker Johnson who placed second in the 11 year old boys’ competition. He is the son of Kory Poeschel and Kevin Johnson. Rounding out the contingent of young athletes representing the local club were; Brailey Opelt, daughter of Brandy and Carl, Braeden Mortenson, son of Mandy & Travis and Landon Rakestraw, son of Amy and Josh. All five young athletes worked very hard this past season to develop their outstanding skills.
