Neillsville Booster Club Girl’s Youth Basketball Tournament Results

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual Girl’s Youth Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 3rd.

Twenty-seven, 5 th -8 th grade teams from around Central Wisconsin competed in the tournament.

Placing first in the 5 th grade division was the squad representing Fall Creek as they slipped by Wisconsin Rapids to capture the gold medals. Taking home the bronze hardware was Stratford as they edged Onalaska. The hometown girls finished the day with a 3-1 record and earned the consolation championship as they edged Marshfield White 13-11 in their final contest. Members of the squad who are coached by Jamie Kuhn, McKayla Knuth & Aaron Wanish include: Lacey Stargardt, Rachel Dux, Bailey Zank, Ali Anding, McKendy Barth, Olivia Langreck, Kennedy Wanish, Cameron Rueth, Jessica Kuhn, Karcyn Schmitz, Emerson Ormond and Dani Bobak. Also competing in the tourney were Greenwood, Marshfield Black, Spencer and Granton.

In the 6 th grade portion of the tourney the Osseo-Fairchild Thunder proved to be the top team as they edged Wisconsin Rapids in the title game. The local girls placed 4th as they were narrowly defeated by Colby 25-20 in the battle for the bronze medals. Members of the local team who are
coached by Jenna Ehlen include: Gracie Schoengarth, Kaylee Lawrence, Alissa Kummer,
Rhyan Aslin-Pullum, Keltie Schoen, Sophie Hanson, Tyla Uptergrove, Shylah Walk, Sydney Subke, Karli Gross, Olivia Hahn & Kenadi Urban. Spencer defeated Marshfield Orange for the consolation championship with Greenwood and Blair-Taylor rounding out the bracket.

In the 7 th grade bracket Osseo-Fairchild completed the day with a perfect record to earn the top prize while Stevens Point, Neillsville, Spencer and Greenwood followed respectively. The Warrior girls who are coached by Sunni Opelt and Jon Harris feature: Jada Gurney, Paris & Lilly Opelt, Addison Anderson, Nataly Harris, Cali Moseid, Abby Koepp, Paige Voigt, Olivia Kopreck, Sella Anderson & Amelia Warren.

In the final group of the tourney, the Neillsville girls left no doubt who were the top team as the 8 th graders went undefeated on the day to secure the gold hardware. Independence, Greenwood and Spencer rounded out the bracket. Members of the championship team who were coached by Duane King included; Mackenzie Hediger, Lainey Horn, Miranda Mijal, Callee Mohr, Delaney Rochester and Amelia Trunkel.

In the daylong competition, forty- five games were contested. The Booster Club would like to thank the many volunteers who helped officiate, score keep, take tickets or work the concession stand. All proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville schools.
