Big High School Football Games Friday Night

A number of big key conference matchups are coming up this Friday night in high school football...None is bigger perhaps than in the Cloverbelt Conference where Eau Claire Regis (7-0) is at Spencer/Columbus Catholic (7-0). Spencer/Columbus won last years game in Eau Claire 23-8 on their way to a second place finish in the conference.
This years matchup features two high-powered offenses and two great defenses. Regis is averaging 39 points a game while giving up under 5. Spencer/Columbus averages 42 points per game while giving up just 9.2. Regis is ranked No. 3 in Division 6 of the WisSports.net/Coaches Poll while Spencer/Columbus is ranked No. 3 in Division 5.
Also on Friday night Gilman (6-1) is at Loyal (6-1). Gilman enters the game one game out of first place in the Cloverwood Conference and is coming off a 62-0 pasting of Athens. Loyal is tied with Abbotsford for first place in the Cloverwood. The Greyhounds defeated Thorp 54-0 last Friday. Both teams feature strong running games. Maverick Birkenholz paced the Gilman attack last week with 10 rushes for 222 yards and four touchdowns. The Hounds running attack features Clayton Rarick and Stephen Buchanan who each average over 10 yards per carry. Game time on Friday night for this one is at 7 pm and you can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
Another key area matchup Friday night has Almond-Bancroft (6-1) at Pittsville (7-0). Almond-Bancroft is one-half game behind Pittsville in the Central Wisconsin Conference-Small Conference. Pittsville leads the overall series 7-0.
