Neillsville Gets By Spencer To Advance In Regional

The Neillsville baseball team beat Spencer 4-2 on Thursday in a D3 Regional Quarterfinal to advance to the semi-final next Tuesday at Marathon.

Spencer got on the board first in the first inning after Hunter Luepke walked and Caden Schillinger reached on an error, Kyler Baier and Carson Hildebrandt had back to back RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead. Neillsville got a run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI ground out by Luke Erickson.

The Warriors would then score 3 runs in the 3rd led by a 2 RBI single from Lane Kranz.

Neither team would score again and the final scored ended up being 4-2. Marshall Opelt got the win going 4 innings, giving up 2 runs, 1 earned on 2 hits, striking out 7 and walking two. Kole Hediger pitched to 2 batters in the 5th inning, walking both, before giving way to Logan Matson. Matson struck out 2 to get out of the 5th and then proceeded to strike out 6 of the next 10 batters including a game ending strike out to Baier.

Neillsville finished with 6 hits, Monte Dietsler had 2 of those. Spencer was held to just 3 hits in the game.

Neillsville will be at Marathon on Tuesday in the Regional Semi-Final.
