Warriors Win In The Bottom Of The 7th

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018 -- 7:53 PM

Logan Matson hit a pop foul out and Braden Trunkel raced home to beat the tag in the bottom of the 7th as Neillsville beat Spencer 3-2 on Tuesday in Eastern Cloverbelt Conference baseball.

Neillsville scored first in the game in the first inning after a lead off double from Matson, he advanced to third on a throwing error and then scored on a sacrifice bunt from Jonah Zoschke. The Warriors would score again in the 4th inning on an RBI single from Luke Mayer.

Matson was cruising along on the mound for Neillsville allowing just 2 hits and striking out 8 thru 6 2/3 innings of work and then things happened for Spencer. Carson Hildebrandt reached on an error and Caden Schillinger followed with a single, moving Hildebrandt to third. Neillsville then intentionally walked Hunter Luepke to load the bases. A ground ball to short by Colten Schillinger was misplayed by Mayer at short and two runs scored to tie the game. Matson then got Tanner Kleinschmidt to pop out to third to end the inning.

In the bottom of the 7th, Luke Erickson led off with a walk and Braden Trunkel came in as a courtesy runner. Noah Henchen and Cole Hediger both had bunt singles to load the bases and then Matson's pop foul out scored Trunkel for the 3-2 final.

Matson went the distance on the mound for Neillsville allowing 2 runs, neither were earned, he allowed 3 hits, struck out 9 and walked 4. Luepke went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs, on 4 hits, striking out 8 and walking 3. Kleinschmidt came on the 7th inning and he gave up the run on 2 hits.

Cole Hediger finished 2 for 3 from the plate for Neillsville.

The Warriors are now 4-1 on the season, Spencer falls to 2-3.
