Area Girls Make WBCA All-State Teams

Some area girls basketball players have received All-State honors from the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association...Jennifer Wendler of Owen-Withee has made the 2018 Division 5 WBCA All-State Team. Wendler led Owen-Withee to a 16-8 record, averaging 21.8 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game for coach Al Guthman and the Blackhawks. The 6-foot-2 forward has an NCAA Division I offer from Youngstown State.
Brooke Freitag of Osseo-Fairchild made the Division 4 WBCA All-State Team. Freitag led Osseo-Fairchild to an 18-5 record and was chosen Cloverbelt-West Player of the Year. The senior and UW-Oshkosh recruit averaged 15.3 points per game for coach Hailey Zawacki and the Thunder. Tahlia Walton of Stanley-Boyd also made All-State in Division 4. She led Stanley-Boyd to a 15-9 record. The senior and UW-Milwaukee recruit scored 23 points per game for coach Alison Becker and the Orioles this season.
Maggie Negaard of Stevens Point made the Division 1 WBCA All-State Team. Negaard led Stevens Point (22-3) to a share of the Wisconsin Valley title and earned co-player of the year in the league. The Drake recruit averaged 18.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game for coach Kraig Terpstra and the Panthers who reached sectional play.
