Opelt Has Career High 18 In Warrior Win

Freshman Bella Opelt scored a career high 18 points as Neillsville downed Columbus Catholic 53-36 in a battle of second place teams in the Eastern Cloverbelt.The Warriors held the Dons scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the game and led 26-13 at the half, led by Samantha Cappadora with 9 points, Opelt had 7.
Neillsville and Columbus Catholic both put a lot of pressure on the ball in the second half, but it was the Warriors who benefited more, outscoring the Dons 27-23. Opelt scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half, while sophomore Ali Schoengarth scored 7 of her 10 points in that half as well. Cappadora also finished in double figures with 11 points.
Morgan Albrecht led the Dons with 13 points.
Neillsville improved to 6-1 in the Eastern Cloverbelt and 8-1 overall. Columbus Catholic fell to 5-2 in the ECC and 8-3 overall.
Neillsville will be at Owen-Withee on Tuesday while Columbus Catholic is at Colby.
