2018 AMA ATV Ice Race Grand Championship Coming To Wausau

Friday, November 3rd, 2017 -- 6:31 AM

The 2018 AMA ATV Ice Race Grand Championship is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2018 in Wausau, where competitors from across the country will compete for national titles.

AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant said, "The AMA ATV Ice Race Grand Championship features the country's fastest amateur ATV racers competing aboard highly modified, purpose-built machines that allow them to race on an oval course."

According to the press release, racers will also be competing for two prestigious awards: AMA ATV Ice Racer or the Year, which honors the most impressive rider on the ice, and the AMA ATV Youth Ice Racer of the Year.

ATV ice racing in the Midwest is incredibly popular, particularly in Wisconsin.

"Some local racing groups trace their history back over 30 years, and it shows in the quality of the racers and level of innovation, particularly in the un-studded (rubber tired) classes," said William Bell, race director for Rib Mountain Riders Motorcycle Club. "The challenge for these riders will be to see how they compare to the best quad racers in the AMA on Feb. 10. The Wausau 525 track is universally praised as the best anywhere, so all the racers are in for a red-hot weekend on the ice."

The 2018 AMA Ice Race Grand Championship for motorcycle competitors will be held at a separate event in Cadillac, Mich. on Feb. 2-4, 2018. More information on this event will be available soon.
