Tubbs Named Packers Coach Of The Week

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 -- 8:55 AM

The Green Bay Packers have announced that Jason Tubbs of Stratford has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Tubbs, in his fifth year as the varsity head coach of Stratford, led the No. 5 seeded Tigers to an impressive 38-0 upset victory over the No. 1 seeded Stanley-Boyd in the second round of the WIAA-Division 5 State Football Tournament last Friday. The two teams had met previously this year in the first game of the regular season on Aug. 18, with the Orioles defeating the Tigers 21-14. Tubbs was happy with the way his team was able to execute on both sides of the ball in this meeting.

Tubbs and the Tigers now look ahead to their matchup with the No. 2 seeded Amherst Falcons in the third round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 3, at Amherst High School. The Falcons finished the regular season as the top ranked Division 5 team in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll.

Tubbs grew up in Tomah, Wis., and graduated from Tomah High School in 1989. In high school, he was a three-sport athlete playing football, basketball and baseball. He played offensive line and linebacker for Coach Ken Jakubowski. Tubbs went on to earn two bachelor’s degrees from UW-La Crosse, one in Recreation Management 1993 and one in Elementary Education in 1999.

Tubbs began his coaching career in 1992 as the head middle school coach and co-head coach for the freshmen at the Tomah School District. In 1999, he became the head junior varsity coach at the Saydel School District in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 2001, he was head coach at Glenoak Middle School in Canton, Ohio. In 2003, Tubbs returned to Wisconsin and became the defensive coordinator for Stratford High School before being named head coach in 2013.

Winners of the "Coach of the Week" are awarded several items and privileges, including a $1,000 donation to the school’s football program from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL Foundation, as well as recognition of the award on Packers.com, Wissports.net and Wifca.org.
