20 Second Half Points Propel Hounds Into Level 2

Saturday, October 21st, 2017 -- 8:46 AM

Trailing 16-8 at the half, the Loyal Greyhounds outscored Owen-Withee 20-6 in the second half to win 28-22 on Friday night and advance to Level 2 of the WIAA Football Playoffs.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Blackhawks capitalized on a Loyal turnover and got on the board first early in the second quarter on a 2 yard run from Kevin Kitlica. The two-point conversion was good and it was 8-0. Loyal would then go on a long scoring drive, culminating in a Quinn Brussow to Jordan Radue 8 yard scoring strike to even the score at 8-8. Owen-Withee would answer right back on their next possession as Brandon Bennett broke free down the right side line for a 67 yard touchdown run. That made the halftime score 16-8 in favor of the Hawks.

The Hound's Devin Witt returned the opening kickoff of the second half inside the Hawk's 5 yard line , setting up a 1 yard touchdown run by Hunter Much early in the 3rd quarter to even the score at 16.
Owen-Withee would answer the Hounds score again, capitalizing on another Hound turnover and Kitlica scored his second touchdown, this time from 4 yards out. The two-point conversion failed and the Hawks led 22-16. Loyal would come back as Devin Witt would score for the Hounds from 5 yards out, tying the score at 22 going into the 4th quarter.

The 4th quarter featured only one score and it came from Loyal after Owen-Withee muffed a punt. Loyal took over at the Owen-Withee 20 and several plays later, Clayton Rarick would find room on the left sideline for a 15 yard scoring run and put the Hounds up 28-22, which proved to be the final.

Unofficially, Rarick led all rushers with 97 yards on 15 carries. Bennett led Owen-Withee with 91 yards on the ground. Brussow was 7 of 12 for 55 yards through the air for Loyal.

Next up: Loyal will host Abbotsford in a Level 2 Playoff game next Friday (10/27) at 7 pm. You can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
