Neillsville Tops Loyal In ECC Baseball

The Neillsville baseball team topped Loyal on Tuesday in Eastern Cloverbelt baseball 6-5.

Neillsville improves to 10-3 in the ECC and is now tied with Greenwood atop the standings. Loyal drops to 11-4 in the conference.

Loyal got on the board first in the first inning after Riley Geiger was hit by pitch he stole second and then scored on an RBI single from Dawson Brock. The Warriors tied the score in bottom of the inning after Logan Matson was hit by a pitch stole second and after reaching third on a sac bunt from Noah Henchen, Matson scored on a wild pitch.

Loyal took the lead 3-1 after scoring 2 runs in the second, but the Warriors came back to tie the score at 3 with 2 runs in the third.

Neillsville picked up a run in the 5th after Henchen doubled to left and scored on an RBI single from Marshall Opelt. The Warriors got two more insurance runs in the 6th on a two RBI single from David Harder.

Loyal wasn't finished though. In the top of the 7th, trailing 6-3 with two out and 2 on, Geiger hit a long fly ball off the glove of Henchen in left and two runs scored. Geiger made it to third but was left stranded after a ground out second by Brock ended the game.

Each team had 8 hits with Maverick Roehl collecting two for Loyal and Harder and Henchen each had two for Neillsville. Harder also had 3 RBI's for Neillsville.

Geiger went the distance for Loyal, striking out 6 and walking 3. Matson started for the Warriors going 3 1/3 while Cole Hediger came on relief going 3 2/3 to get the win.
