Neillsville Tops Greenwood

Freshman catcher Luke Erickson's RBI single in the bottom of the 6th inning proved to be the game winner as Neillsville downed Greenwood in Eastern Cloverbelt baseball on Thursday 2-1.Greenwood got on the scoreboard first when Walker Wuethrich walked with 2 outs in the first inning then stole second and scored on a single by Jaeger Johnson.
Neilsville scored their first run in the 4th inning after Logan Matson singled, stole second and third and then scored on a passed ball.
The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the 6th. With two outs, Matson walked and then stole second. Erickson then delivered the RBI single to right center to score Matson.
Matson also executed a double play to end the game after getting a ground ball near second base, stepped on second and then threw to first to get out there.
Neillsville starter Marshall Opelt went the distance allowing 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking 3. Greenwood starter Devon Toburen went six innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 7 and walking one.
Neillsville improves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the ECC, Greenwood falls to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
