Neillsville Booster Club Girl’s Youth Basketball Tournament Results

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual Girl’s Youth Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 12th.

Twenty-one 5th-8th grade teams from around Central Wisconsin competed in the tournament.

Placing first in the 5th grade division was the hometown Neillsville Warriors as they completed the day with a perfect 3-0 record. The Eau Claire Eagles grabbed the silver medals with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Greenwood rounding out the bracket. Members of their squad who were coached by Tim Voigt, Kai Moseid & Sunni Opelt included: Jada Gurney, Paris & Lilly Opelt, Paige Voigt, Addison Anderson Ruskin, Ava Miller, Cali Moseid, Olivia Kopreck, Abby Koepp, Gracie Schoengarth & Kaylee Lawrence.

In the 6th grade division the Auburndale Apaches went home with the top prize as they slipped by the runner-up Neillsville Warriors. The local squad who are led by coaches Ron Trunkel and Rick Rochester include: Delaney Rochester, Amelia Trunkel, Mackenzie Heidger, Lainey Horn, Vickie Ratsch, Lillyan Schutz, Miranda Mijal, Kayla Verch & Callie Mohr. Picking up third place were the Marshfield Tigers, with Loyal and Greenwood rounding out the bracket.

In the 7th grade division, the competition was outstanding as the final game saw Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln outlast the hometown Warriors to secure the gold medals. The Warriors who are coached by Jena Ehlen and Travis Mortenson includes: Emma Moseley, Kylie Boyer, Kati Mayer, Abigail Shilts, Rylee Courtney, Lauren Langreck, Courtney Oldham, Skylar Hart, Ava Mortenson, and Amanda Schneider. Picking up the bronze medals were Medford, with Osseo-Fairchild earning fourth. The consolation ribbons were awarded to Colfax with Wausau West placing 6th , Spencer 7th and Greenwood rounding out the bracket.

In the final bracket the young Warriors showed off their impressive talent as they bettered the Eau Claire Eagles, Auburndale Apaches and Greenwood Indians to grab the individual gold medals. The team who is led by coaches Missy Stockheimer and Sunni Opelt include: Emily Hanson, Bella Opelt, Arriana Rochester, Libny Castillo, Jaden Barth, Kaitlin Zimmerman, Sarah Hahn, Aubrey Anderson, Terren Stockheimer, Emma Vance & Kayla Ratsch.

In the daylong competition, thirty-one games were contested. The Booster Club would like to thank the many volunteers who helped officiate, scorekeep, take tickets or work the concession stand. All proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville schools.
