Shilts To Compete In World Winter Games In Austria

Snowboarder Daina Shilts of Neillsville will join nearly 3000 athletes from 110 countries in Austria to compete in the Special Olympics premiere winter sporting event - the 2017 World Winter Games.

Beginning Tuesday, March 14th, athletes and coaches from Special Olympics Wisconsin will represent the U.S.

Daina will be returning to the World Winter Games after bringing home a gold and two silver medals from South Korea in 2013. She also earned a silver medal in the 2017 X Games in Unified snowboarding with Hannah Teter. She will compete in Snowboarding: Advanced Assessment on Friday.

Cross Country skier Heidi Van Abel of Manitowoc and alpine skier Kyle Robinson of Ashland will join Daina on the Wisconsin team.

Steve Meurett, also from Neillsville, will be coaching cross-country skiing and also volunteering as a wax technician.

The delegation will return to Wisconsin on March 25th.
