Neillsville Boys Are Regional Champs!

The 5th seeded Neillsville boys basketball team knocked off the top seeded Marathon Red Raiders 57-56 on Saturday night in Marathon to win the Regional Championship.The Warriors led 35-19 at the half but Marathon kept chipping away at the lead and eventually were able make the score close late in the game.
With the score tied at 56 with 4 seconds left, Neillsville's Logan Matson was fouled bringing the ball up the right side line. Logan missed the first freethrow of the double bonus and then made the second one. Neillsville then called a timeout. Marathon needed to bring the ball the length of the floor and Donavon Free was able to get off a long shot from the right wing that bounced in and out and the Warriors got the win by one.
Neillsville was led by Cody Roman with 14 points, Issac Bryan had 13, Adam Schmidt 12 and Alex King added 10 points. Free led all scorers with a game high 21.
Neillsville (17-8) will now face Stratford (17-8), who beat Auburndale in 2 (OT) 72-63, in a Division 4 Sectional Semi-Final on Thursday night at 7 pm at D.C. Everest High School. You can hear it live on 92.7 FM WPKG.
