Neillsville Booster Club Boys Basketball Tournament Held

The Neillsville Booster Club held their annual “Youth Boys Basketball Tournament” on Sunday, February 12th with 30 area teams participating. Forty-five games were contested throughout the day with the following champions noted.

In the 5th grade division, first place was captured by Marshfield Black, with Stanley Boyd second, Osseo-Fairchild third and Loyal picking up fourth. The local squad picked up the consolation championship with a solid win over Augusta. Members of the Warrior team who are coached by Dave McDonald and Michael Gross included: Gavin Barth, John McDermott , Hudson Hanson, Nolyn McFarlane, Jace Pekol, Reese McDonald, Joey Vance, Austin Gross, Braylon Boyer & Cole Miller.

In the 6th grade division the Neillsville squad captured the silver medals as they lost a hard fought battle to the Marshfield Black team in the championship game. The team who is coached by Nick Kuhn and Cody Roman include: Elliot Hahn, Andrew Brown, Logan & Dante Erickson, Noble Melvin, Kane Johnson, Jacob Morrell, Alex Roman, Zach Derfus and Tyler Vance. Finishing third place was Whitehall, with Greenwood claiming fourth. The consolation champs were Osseo-Fairchild with Colby sixth, Marshfield Orange 7th and Spencer rounding out the bracket.

In the seventh grade bracket, Marathon took home the gold medals with Stratford second, Chippewa Falls third and Marshfield fourth. The consolation champ was Granton with Loyal garnering 6th place. The Neillsville boys who were coached by Butch Subke, Matt Roenz and Terry Byrne competed strong, but ended up in 8th place as they were edged in their final game by Spencer. The team roster includes: Michael Byrne, Santana Subke, Charlie Schoen, Brayden Zank, Mason Roenz,Anthony Knuth, Taytor Lowry, Paul Craig, Eric Moltzen, Cody Crillo and Preston Stoltz.

In the final bracket the Eau Claire Green Knights grabbed the gold medals with Greenwood the runner-up. Neillsville picked up the silver medals by dumping Loyal in their final game. Boys competing for the home town team who were coached by Michael Gaier were: Braden Trunkel, Calvin Berger, Trumale Myers, Logan Oldham, Carrson Mohr, Teagan Dillenbeck, Payton Heiman and Wyatt Kuchenmeister. Placing 5th were the boys from Marshfield with Spencer collecting 6th place.

The tournament, sponsored by the Booster Club was conducted with a tremendous amount of volunteer help and all proceeds are used to support youth sports at Neillsville schools.
