Neillsville Downs Assumption

The Neillsville girls basketball team improved to 13-1 on the season with a 48-39 win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on Tuesday night.

Neillsville got out to a 25-18 halftime lead, led by Mindy Schoengarth who had three 3-pointers and 10 points in the half.

In the second half, both teams turned up their defensive pressure, and despite shooting just 6 for 14 from the freethrow line, the Warriors prevailed, outscoring the Royals 23-21 in the half for the win.

Kayla Lis scored 10 of her game high 18 points in the second half. Schoengarth finished with 13 points. Neillsville was only 13 of 26 from the freethrow line.

Gracie Wendels led the Royals with 11 points, Elle Leberg added 10.

Neillsville will have a make-up game at Nekoosa on Saturday night.
