Edgar Wins 7th State Championship

The Edgar Wildcats are the Division 7 State Football Champions after a dominating 36-6 win over Shullsburg on Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.The Wildcats took the opening kickoff and drove 66 yards in 7 plays, capped off by a 1 yard touchdown run from Alec Hafferman to take an 8-0 lead. Less than 2 minutes later, Karson Butt had a 47 yd interception return for a score to make it 15-0 with 8:49 to go in the 1st quarter.
Hafferman would score again in the first quarter to make it a 22-0 Edgar lead before Shullsburg would get on the board late in the quarter on a Noah Wand to Hunter Matye 9 yard pass for a touchdown.
Hafferman scored his 3rd touchdown of the game late in the first half to give Edgar a 29-6 lead and then with a minute and a half left in the first half, Tyler Matysik scored on a 1 yd run to make it 36-6 at the half.
Neither team would score in the second half so the final was 36-6.
Edgar outgained Shullsburg 318 - 226 in total yards with 307 of those yards on the ground. Alec Hafferman carried the ball 24 times for a game high 144 yards. Ben Sigwarth led Shullsburg on the ground with 85 yards.
Shullsburg quarterback, Noah Wand completed 62% of his passes for over 1800 yards and 25 touchdowns coming into the D7 championship game, but the Edgar defense was too much as he completed just 7 of 18 for only 108 yards and 3 interceptions.
For Edgar it's their first State Championship in Division 7. They have now won Championships in 4 different divisions
