WIAA State Football Finals Preview: Division 3

The 41st Annual WIAA Football State Championship Finals will be held Thursday and Friday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. Here's a preview of the Division 3 game.....LAST YEAR: Notre Dame was a 19-17 victor over Catholic Memorial in the Division 3 title tilt.

Div. 3 - Notre Dame (12-1) vs. Catholic Memorial (13-0) - 10 a.m.
DIVISION 3 NOTES: The same two teams that squared off in the title game last season return for a rematch. Defending champion Notre Dame is making its fourth appearance in the State final with two championships and a runner-up finish. In addition to last season, they won the title in 2003. Their first experience in the title game resulted in a runner-up finish in 2000. They finished in second place in the Fox River Classic Conference and advance to the title game with a 35-17 victory over Rice Lake at Level 4. Notre Dame has averaged 37.4 points a game this season. Prior to joining the WIAA, the Tritons played in four Division 1 title games of the now defunct WISAA organization. They won a title in 1992 and finished runner-up in 1995, 1997 and 1998. Last year’s runner-up Catholic Memorial is making its fifth appearance in the State final. The Crusaders won the Division 3 State title in 2012 to go with their runner-up finishes in Division 2 in 2001 and in Division 3 in 2010. Before joining the WIAA, the Crusaders won WISAA titles in 1979, 1989, 1993 and 1996. They were also runners-up six times. This season, they are the champions of the Classic 8 Conference. They advance to the championship game following a 30-7 win over Pewaukee at Level 4. The Crusaders’ average score through their four playoff games is 32.0-14.8.
ON THE AIR: The championship finals will be televised live on either Fox Sports Wisconsin or Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus. The Divisions 7, 6, 3, 2 and 1 finals will be aired live on Fox Sports Wisconsin. The Divisions 4 and 5 championships will be aired on Fox Sports Wisconsin Plus.
